How to Create a Realistic Cleaning Schedule

Cleaning is always on the to-do list. With everything going on in life, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed with cleaning tasks and fall behind. That’s why it’s recommended to create a cleaning schedule.
However, finding a realistic schedule that works can be just as overwhelming. One long list of tasks can feel impossible to tackle. To make cleaning more organized and manageable, cleaning tasks are broken down into 3 categories: daily, weekly, and rotating.
Daily Tasks
Each of the following tasks need to be completed daily to avoid small messes becoming larger ones. For less than 10 minutes a day, you can keep your house tidy.
- Wash dishes
- Make beds
- Pick up toys, tidy family area
- Clear clutter from counters
- One load of laundry
- Wipe countertops
Weekly Tasks
Having one area of the home to focus on each day of the week helps you stay ahead of cleaning. Breaking it down into daily tasks is sure to help you feel less overwhelmed and more organized. Each Sunday is reserved for any tasks that were missed or left incomplete.
- Monday: Vacuuming
- Tuesday: Bathrooms
- Wednesday: Sweep and Mop floors
- Thursday: Dusting
- Friday: Kitchen
- Saturday: Living Room and Bedrooms
- Sunday: Any tasks left over
Rotating Tasks
Adding in some rotating tasks helps you stay on top of deep cleaning and makes it more manageable. The following items should be rotated into your schedule, simply pick one to add to each week.
- Vacuum/wash baseboards
- Clean light fixtures
- Wash or vacuum rugs
- Clean oven
- Wash windows
- Sanitize switches, phones, and remotes
- Wash bedding
- Vacuum under and around furniture
